A Single Measurement of Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone in Cerebrospinal Fluid is of no Value in the Diagnosis of Dementia

F. ROELANDTS

Internal Medicine—Geriatrics, Institute of Psychogeriatrics Gentse Steenweg, B-1080 Brussels, Belgium

It has been reported that adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTII) levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of dementia patients are lower than in normal subjects. We have carried out ACTII estimations in the CSF of 17 patients suffering from dementia and on sex- and age-matched controls. No difference was found.
